What Hat Are You Wearing?

Pick a Hat

There are many seasons in a person's life, especially if you are a woman of God. In a single day, a woman can 'wear many different hats'. This page is a work in progress. My goal is to design a page with sources of information to inform and exhort women in these various roles.

Here is a list of resources I or others have found helpful. Of course, some of these publications would be of interest to men as well!

My favorite book about the different phases women go through when raising a family is (1)Woman at Home by Arlene Cardozo reprinted in 2000 by iUniverse.com, Inc. Ms. Cardozo explores how women can take advantage of the freedom of being at home to fully develop their own interests and disciplines. Even working moms content with their careers would glean much from this encouraging book.

Book description by the author: Welcome to the 25th anniversary edition of Woman At Home, which is even more relevant today than when Doubleday first published it in l976 to both popular and critical acclaim. Then, women staying at home with their children were bucking the tide of a feminist philosophy which painted a job outside home as the path to fulfillment. Today, as we have seen from recent Newsweek, Time and Business Week articles on the subject, becoming a Woman At Home is the role and goal of millions of mothers throughout the country.-Arlene Rossen Cardozo, Ph.D.

The Role of Women

The subject of the role of women in the Church is, unfortunately, one of great controversy. (See my March 2011 post entitled "MARCHing Orders".)

To assist my readers who desire more understanding on this subject, here is a list of sources of Biblical research that I have found (not that I necessarily agree with everything written in these publications):

(2)Why Not Women? by Loren Cunningham (a man) and David Joel Hamilton (also a man:), 2000, YWAM Publishing, ywampublishing.com. Its cover describes the contents: A fresh look at scripture on women in missions, ministry, and leadership.

This is the most thorough publication I have found that addresses the most difficult scriptures related to the role of women. It also lists several other excellent resources.

My favorite quote is from page 16: "The temptation to keep women from obeying God's call on their lives is an attack on males in the Body of Christ. On the surface, this attack appears to be only against women, but when we look deeper, it is also against men..."

(3)Needless Casualties of War by John Paul Jackson, 2002, Streams Publications. "Limping Christians, millions of them. They took aim at Satan and shot themselves in the foot. If you are one of them, or don't wish to be, read [this book], my favorite manual on spiritual warfare."-Harald Bredesen, Chairman, The Prince of Peace Foundation

(4)Jezebel, Seducing Goddess of War by Jonas Clark, 2004, Spirit of Life Publishing. Jonas Clark aptly describes what many of us have endured when relating his experience with the spirit of Jezebel. With scriptural references, he explains how both men and women can be carriers of this spirit and move in witchcraft, control and manipulation.

Parenting and Child Care

(5)The Mommy Manual (With Notes for Daddy Too) by Lyn Melvin, 1991, Townhouse Press. For more information, see my Published Work page.

Getting Organized
(6)Side-Tracked Home Executives by Pam Young & Peggy Jones, 2001, Warner Books. The slob sisters tell you how they moved from clutter and chaos to order and how easily you can do it too!

Grandparenting

I've been a grandmother now for over 15 years, but I have not read any books on the subject of grandparenting.

If you know of any, please go back to the Home Page and leave a comment under one of my articles. Also if you know of any other wonderful books or websites, drop me a line!
